I met Dan early in the morning stumbling around the Harbor with his faded blue bath robe. He seemed very excited to see me even though we had never met. He told me about his journey from Winnipeg that took him nearly 45 hours. It seemed to be eventful with engine fires and home made gas lines that kept his 1986 yellow school bus moving towards the bay. After getting a tour of his custom bus which included a 40” plasma television that was wall mounted with Xbox and a dvd player hook up. He said to me “how could living in a bus be so bad. I mean I woke up this morning on the water and played Xbox live over someone’s free wifi signal.” Who was I to judge. He seemed more then excited about the way him and his dog lived and travelled. Dan also explained the reasons for his adventures was to share his knowledge about kite boarding. His plan was to travel around the world in search for the best places to kite, but also to share his love with the sport to others willing to try. I opted out on trying after he told me that you can catch 100 feet of air while surfing with a kite. This is Dan and his favorite thing to talk about…. His bus!
